The Superwoman in Me

August 12th, 2010 by admin

People would always expect me to flaunt my superhuman abilities inside the home, at work or at the usual coffee time with friends. I grew up learning things to only not benefit me but impart things to others. I would usually go through various toy manuals to know how to set up this train system for my brother, when I can just play with my Barbie. Mom would also ask me for recipes of Italian meals and so, I was obliged to memorize all the Italian words in a simple alfredo or pesto everytime I visit Milan or Rome. My happy-go-luck friends would usually rely on me for pop Math quiz answers. I thought that when I settled in the professional arena after getting my diploma, I would no longer have to deal with my superhero side. But, I was wrong. As I stepped into this shipping company and relatively took on a post in a department where I was the youngest and the nest one is 35, all things technical, they would heavily depend on me. I finished business management and fulfilled a masters degree in economic and not Information Communications technology or Computer Science. Sometimes, as simple as how to connect midi keyboard to computer and decluttering their bins, they would still come up to me and ask for assistance. The only way I was able to survive is through workplans. I created a simple flowchart that contains basic instructions on how to do this and that. At home, scenario is still the same with my adorable nephew who would always ask me how to connect keyboard and mouse to ps3 and how to beat that bad guy in the action-packed and somehow very violent game. I enjoy being the go-to guy most of the time, but I also want to experience peace in a day without having to learn things for others.
