July 30th, 2010 by admin

Most people who start to teach English abroad make mistakes. The learning curve is made all the more steeper by the fact that for the vast majority it is a complete career change. Choosing the right country where you will be able to find work and enjoy living as a local is not the sort of thing you want to do by trial and error. The same goes for signing a 12 month job contract with an employer you may have doubts about. Lastly, can you and will you even like teaching English if you have never done it before?

There is a way that you can get round these issues and jump the learning curve. There is a new guide called Teach English Abroad that is aimed specifically at ESL newcomers. This guide contains 3 books and a website. Unlike other teaching English as a foreign language resources it cover all the major aspects that need to be addressed to launch a successful career.

The main part of the package is Teach English Abroad – Guide to Jobs. This book show you not only how to find and get a great ESL job but also covers training and qualifications, the different types of work available, private classes, preparing to move abroad and more. Some readers will find the final chapter of special interest where 10 teachers from around the world tell their stories and offer advice.

To find the right country and location the Teach English Abroad – Guide to Countries reviews over 60 of the best countries to teach ESL. You’ll find info on salaries, finding work locally, red tape and other important factors that may influence where you decide to go. The Members Website is a directory of all the best links and resources available online. These have been carefully arranged by country and category so you can find what you need in seconds instead of conducting long internet searches.

The final part of the package is the book on How to Teach English as a Foreign Language. Not intended as an alternative to a full TEFL course, the book will nonetheless give you practical advice on teaching the language. For anyone looking to teach English abroad this guide is not be missed.

America No Longer the Worlds Education Leader!

July 28th, 2010 by admin

It’s been expected and now it’s finally happened. The College Board reported last Thursday on the growing gap between the United States and other countries in terms of their college graduation rates.

Together with the overall degradation of American high school education written earlier about, this threatens to undermine the nation’s economic competitiveness.

The United States used to be the world’s number one by its college graduates from 25 to 34 years. Now it ranks only 12th among 36 developed nations.

“The growing education deficit is no less a threat to our nation’s long-term well-being than the current fiscal crisis,” Gaston Caperton, the President of the College Board, warned at a meeting of education leaders and policy makers on Capitol Hill. He also released a report which recommended to “think P-16 and improve education from preschool through higher [one]” in order to increase the completion rates.

“We led the world in the 1980s, but we didn’t build from there,” said William Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland, who hosted the Washington discussion along with Mr. Caperton.  “If you look at people 60 and over, about 39 – 40 percent have college degrees, and if you look at young people, too, about 39 – 40 percent have college degrees. Meanwhile, other countries have passed us by.”

While public and media attention was mostly paid to college accession rates in recent decades, college graduation rates are relatively new item on the national agenda. Everything started a year ago when President Obama announced his American Graduation Initiative that urged for five million more college graduates by 2020.

This month, after chairing the National Governors Association, Gov. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia spoke on his similar initiative.

While policy makers are still uncertain on how to exactly improve the college graduation rates, underfunding is believed to be the core of the problem. Many sponsors, funds and philanthropic organizations have declared on their intentions to help.

Looking for values and formulas in Excel

July 25th, 2010 by admin

Dealing with numbers, formulas and equations is a difficult task especially when we are trying to create something just by ourselves.  Personally, I lways measured in inches and weight in pounds.  So when putting those entries in paper with those standards that need equivalents in the metric system, it is time consuming to use a conversion table and calculator.  Putting them excel makes it a lot easier.  You must know though how to vlookup in excel.  It helps very much on how to do it to avoid mistakes in the process.  In the case of searching values of inches to the metric system it can show from millimeters, centimeters or meters in equivalent values.

The basic information that we put in excel at the start of the process will make the system make a match of constant and consistent entries.  For example products for sale could have codes, item description price and mark-up.  If the information is put in each column side-by-side, excel will be coming up with a formula or a constant.  In this way it helps organize the work that needs doing.  Usually when typing an entry, excel will give or offer options to fill the space.  To know more about this you will need help with vlookup in excel.  It will help more on how to organize the information and have you do more conveniently the work on excel.  At first it will seem difficult to understand but once you see that excel is giving the right options on the entry in a cell, that’s where you start feeling at ease.

Working on excel is quite tedious at the start.  When you get the hang of it, everything just seem to fall in place.

The excellent and the Negative of e-Learning Solutions

July 23rd, 2010 by admin

Because there is an ever-increasing interest in corporate training and logistical problems related to learning from the conventional classroom setting, various elearning providers have grown to be a popular alternative. A lot of companies happen to be having troubles in conducting on location training and tutorials, and that’s why most companies these days are actually opting for a digital method in coaching.

These businesses employ stand-alone CD-ROM modules, enterprise-wide and online programs which may have a huge selection of courses specifically made to accommodate thousands of users at the same time provided by the numerous elearning solutions available today. But despite the fact that, you can still find some people who are hesitant about the various services that e-Learning may offer and feels it to be somewhat too hyped.

Really, e-Learning is not only an improvement or even a variation of the traditional learning that we used to have. E-Learning allows the students to combine the traditional ways of learning with new technologies and Internet facilities. In fact, there are many learners who favor a mixture of face-to-face encounters and network-based education.

But like everything in this world, e-Learning carries a good side and a bad side. Nevertheless, it is often found that usually, e-Learning provides a more personalized, self-paced and self-directed learning experience compared to conventional classroom learning setup.

One particular strong advantage of e-Learning solutions is actually its unequalled flexibility. Through elearning companies and options, there’s no need to attend a school or an institution so that they can study a specific topic or to learn a certain expertise. Aside from that, you’ll have the flexibility to work and study simultaneously since e-Learning programs do not pose fixed classroom timings. Because of this you have the freedom to learn at your very own speed and at your own convenience. In addition, e-learning modules also provide the versatility of being CD-ROM based, network-based and Internet-based as well.

But like I mentioned, such as anything these days, e-learning is not the best answer. For instance, e-learning providers that employ unproductive instructors as well as teachers will not be very helpful. There are many teachers who will discover e-learning an extremely tough option for sharing traditional content. It is also time consuming on the part of the instructor since he will have to give feed backs to his students individually.

There’s also the matter of equipment needs of students and learning providers and the technical training and support of learners and instructors alike. Not just that, e-learning is also confronted with the issue of academic honesty, since students are only virtually involved and all activities are carried out online especially whenever it comes to testing and assessment. The lack of in person interaction is a big drawback for e-learning options.

However, e-learning solutions services supplied by offshore e-learning companies have now become more universal and is nor giving the students and organizations a competitive edge. It’s basically up to you to weigh the pros and the cons of e-learning. And whatever your final decision might be, just make sure that you have put much thought about it and that you have considered all angles in favor of your needs.

Ob Gyn Jobs for Reproductive Health Awareness

July 21st, 2010 by admin

Ob Gyn jobs are part of the medical jobs that deals with female reproductive health. These jobs are composed of gynecologists and nurses that deal with the diseases and problems regarding women’s genital, rectal, urinary tract and they are also the ones telling the patients about their conditions and how to treat certain types of diseases. You shouldn’t be confused with Ob Gyn jobs over obstetric jobs because mainly an obstetrician is the ones who are responsible in caring for female during their pregnancy until the time of giving birth. Oftentimes, Ob Gyn doctors also do obstetrics job like taking care of women during pregnancy but these doctors are the ones who specializes on both gynecology and obstetrics. The educational requirements for Ob Gyn Jobs along with obstetrics are tough that is why you need to be very studious and you should do well in school. The job description of both are quite the same but the job is somehow different from each other but good thing there are doctors who took both Ob Gyn and obstetrics specialization which will serve more patient and be able help them best too. This way, they will not go for check up in a separate doctor instead, they only need to go to one doctor for a complete consultation. One physician will be able to take care of both. If it is concerning reproductive health problems and issues, visiting a gynecologist needs to be done. With the rising population of women lately, the awareness regarding who to visit during times of health troubles is very important. Good thing there are awareness drive by the government of various countries in the world today. being in this line of duty is very hard because Ob Gyn and obstetric doctors don’t have long vacations and even if they want to, they cannot do that because they are always on call especially if they have patients who are pregnant and will be giving birth soon. They cannot go on a vacation because anytime this patient calls and needs their help; they need to respond to the call right away. Being a doctor and working in health related jobs are hard; it takes more than the salary. You should have patient and love for the job to be able to resists the stress and hardships. A lot of people don’t know that doctors are the ones who also need to be taken care of at times because they only have lesser sleep and lesser vacation over other professions these days. Healthcare institutions looking for Ob Gyn jobs here at http://www.ntnjobs.com and related jobs should go through the web since there are lots of people who are capable of performing the jobs and are duly qualified.

I Forgot My Apple Id and Password Again

July 19th, 2010 by admin

I have a book that I carry around with me, sometimes, and it has all my information, such as usernames and passwords, and other information. They always tell us not to use the same username and password for all your accounts and I do understand why. Can anyone remember all of their information, or is it just me? i forgot my apple id and password, but the site always ask you if you have forgotten them. They must know me. Then you have to remember all the secuirty questions, once you do that right, they send you your password. Yes, i forgot my bebo username and that site does the same thing. thank goodness. I know and I appreciate, that they have all this in place to help protect you. I also know that no matter how much security is in place, that the bad guys are always one step ahead. I forgot my apple id and password and I forgot my bebo username and both are easy enough to recover. If the bad guys got those, they wouldn’t get very much personal information about me. Most of the time, you can tell if someone has been in your account. All you hear is not to use the same username and password for all of your accounts. I have to write them down, or I will forget them, and then I have to guard my little “black book” so no one gets it. Just think of how many accounts you have to where you use a password or username. Your bank account, your credit cards, just to name a few. Sometimes I guard my little black book so well, that I forget where I put it. I always find it, so perhaps I wont ever forget those usernames and passwords again.

Excel Help Tips Part Four: Freezing Panes

July 18th, 2010 by admin

Welcome to another session of our Microsoft Excel Tutorial.  After talking about rows and columns last week, we now move on to freezing panes.  Before we begin, always remember everything we discussed can found in Excel’s help section.  All your questions can be answered there. Take the time to read it for reference.

This week, we will answer the question: “how do i freeze panes in excel?”

To begin, choose the row that you want to freeze by clicking the corresponding row heading of your choice.  Row headings are the number found on the leftmost side of the sheet.  You will know you are successful because the whole selected row will be highlighted after clicking the row heading.

After selecting the rows, now select the columns you want to freeze by clicking the corresponding column heading of your choice.  Column headings are the number found on the topmost part of the sheet.  You will know you are successful because the whole selected column will be highlighted after clicking the column heading.

Once you have the rows selected, go to the View tab, look for the Window group, look for the Freeze Pane command and you are done.

That is all the time and space we have for now.  Tune in next week and we will answer the question: “how do i fix cells in excel?”

Copies of our past lessons are now available in our archives for download.  Just log-in with your username and password and download the lesson of your choice.  This done free of charge but do not forget to leave us a feedback by signing the guestbook.
