The Thank You Business
April 11th, 2010 by admin
There is power in saying thank you. Writer/Comedian Christy Murphy knows for sure. It will be three years in April that Murphy started her first website, My-Thank-You-Site.com, and in the last four years the site has grown to over 500 pages and 10,000 daily visitors.
The demand for her particular style of thank you letters, thank you notes and thank you poems was so great, during the first year she took four months off her comedy career just to meet the demand.
“It was incredible and inspiring,” said Murphy in a recent interview at a webmaster convention in San Francisco, “to know that there were that many people in the world looking for ways to share their gratitude.”
Murphy, who remembers writing her first thank you notes to her grandparents when she was five, says she is so glad that the tradition has not died down. She even doesn’t frown on the concept of thank you texts and thank you Emails.
“There are times when, of course, a hand-written card or not is best, but I’m a firm advocate of people sharing their gratitude spontaneously and often. So by all means text your friends to say thank you for a lovely time at lunch, and Email a co-worker and cute thank you graphic for helping you hook up your printer.”
Despite earning a nice income from her site Murphy says that the biggest benefit of running her website has been personal. “It reminds me to be thankful and grateful every day and gives me a medium to focus and express it. I’ve never been happier.”
