There is a vast difference in the educational habits of many paralegals. From a job just out of high school to a Masters degree there is a choice for everyone. The more education you receive the higher your salary will be. Higher education in this field should make it easier to find a job.
There are four main ways to become a paralegal. Let’s review them below:
1. Work Experience: This has mostly gone by the wayside. It is very difficult if not impossible to get a job with just work experience.
2. Undergraduate paralegal studies: There are a number of universities that offer either a two year or a paralegal certificate. It is becoming more and more common for law firms to require a four year degree before they will interview you.
3. Bachelor degree in paralegal studies: There are a number of online universities and traditional schools that offer a degree in this field.
4. Post-baccalaureate paralegal studies: Before you can qualify for this course you will need a bachelor’s degree. Persons studying at this level will more than likely have had some other type of career before pursuing this. This study course is also quite helpful if you are wishing to specialize in a paralegal niche.
A paralegal career can open many doors for you. If you are self-motivated, enjoy research and love to keep everything organized then a career in this field may be the perfect fit. Do your research and find an online university, traditional school or certification program that fits your lifestyle.
